Looking for old flat water kayak 14 years 8 months ago #29957

Hi.. I have recently returned from uni, living back at home and this being based by the river would like to make use of it more. Ive got a play boat that I use at Sunbury and Shepperton, but want something I can use for fitness.

Therefore I would like one of those kayaks that your knees stick out of.. a flat water kayak.. racing kayak.. something that goes quick in a straight line but turns like the titanic.

If there is anyone in and around the south london area / south england.. that has one they are getting rid of or knows anyone I would be very interested.

Ive looked on ebay but cannot tell if they are the kayaks where your knees stick out.. this is important as I will be covering quite a distance and want it to be comfortable.

Thanks Andy

Are you looking for a surfski? www.epickayaks.com/products/surfskikayaks

Here's a nice page I found that you may want to look into: surfski.info/getting-started/tips-getting-started.html

If you only want to use it for fitness, I wouldn't even bother with a flatwater kayak. Plus, surfskis are probably not nearly as comfortable as a standard recreational or whitewater kayak since everything is about being lightweight. Unless you plan on racing it, I wouldn't bother with one. There are plenty of sit on top touring style kayaks out there, and most of the sit in kayaks nowadays are fairly comfortable as well. Put some time into outfitting it and you should be fine :)

Nah hes not looking for a surfski, he will be looking for a k1. i would recomend going for a newer one as the old ones are seriously unstable. cgi.ebay.co.uk/canoe-jaguar-k1-/11056520...33277f#ht_500wt_1156
This isnt the best of quality but this is one of the only ones i could find quickly. relitavly cheap but i would say unstable.

Lots of ideas for such racing boats in the Buyers Guide:

playak.com/buyersguide.php?cid=5010&scid=boatusage&scval=Racing

Attention: racing is still a pretty broad term in the Buyers Guide. It includes racing on paddle boards, stand up paddleboards, wildwater, surfski and flatwater racing (the one we're looking for here).

Good luck,
Jeroen
