Cruise up to your favorite playspot and you'll realize what the Astro 54's subtle release edges and cleverly flared sidewalls are designed for... straight-up sickness! Steve Fisher's exacting specs insured that the flat hull and step rocker profile of the Astor 54 were matched with just the right amount of volume. Big water buseater or low water Hurley, the Astro is designed to snap, crackle, pop.

If you're happy, you're successful.

Your foot size and inseam length should also be state when looking for feedback on a boat. I know with a size 13 foot and 36 inch inseam that I can't fit into the Riots I have tried to squeeze into (Air 60 and Nitro 58...both with thighbraces and footrests out). These two measurements as well as weight let you know if you can properly trim the boat. I haven't tried the Astro 58, but there are now other excellent options for big paddlers, such as the Bliss-Stick RAD 195 (the factory will even add volume or crush it for you), Fluid's Large Flirt and Jackson's Super Star.

ok gotcha I'm a 10.5 shoe with a 32 in inseam and I'm currently paddling a med flirt, and a s6x 195 I love that I'm able to do whatever I want in both of them everything that is except for the newer linked moves you need the pop for. I think four or five more gallons than the flirt med is the way to go, for me, and was curious what the astro does well and what it doesn't do so well. I have paddled the large flirt and enjoy the flirt all around I think the super star is too big and I will def look into the rad 195 thanks for the suggs:grin: :D

I'm thinking of installing a powerseat in my astro 58, mostly cause the backband is brutal. I love the boat but the backband is poor IMO. Does anyone have any info about the powerseat? It looks and sounds like an improvement but this could just be hype and I like to hear from someone who has first hand experience with the product if possible... thanks

Buy a new backband, like the IR Flex Capacitator , Reggie , or Loungeband . I don't get why you would replace the whole seat because of the backband, but try to go to a local paddling shop and test the backbands in your boat on the floor, and make sure to try everything that might happen (lean all the way forward and stretch around 360 degrees as far as you can bend to make sure that it is comfortable in every position).

Thanks for the suggestion, I did look into the IR products but they aren't compatable with this boat without extensive modifications and even then I'm not convinced the result will provide the support I'm looking for. I'm probably going with the powerseat but would love to hear from people that have used one.

I’m 200, 5’10” with 32” inseam and I have the seat of the Astro 58 all the way forward with a wee bit of foam up front. If your height/inseam are comparable you may be good to go. Where do you sit in the M Flirt?

In terms of volume, I owned a M Flirt and paddled a Superstar a few times and my feeling is that the Astro 58 falls smack in the middle.

As for performance I’ll defer to those who have real skills.
