This smooth paddling river running boat combines good speed and tracking with a playful planing hull. The 8'10' is very predictable in big water and has the performance to make those harder moves easier. The double chined planing hull makes it fun to play both horizontally and vertically, while the slightly higher volume gives the paddler a very confortable fit.

If you're happy, you're successful.

Does anyone know how to figure out what size skirt to get a kayak? I just got a Necky Jive 8'10\" but it doesn't have a skirt.

My money's with batman on this one. I've used a jive before, and I'm pretty sure a large should do the trick, but you might be able to find some specs on their website. Hope this helps.

A couple years back they used to differentiate different cockpit sizes like roto 2,3,4. This boat would be a roto 3 in the old days. Now this is where some confusion might come in. They upped the designations to roto 3,4,5. Check this out:

www.palm-equipment.co.uk/images/pdf_file...ydeck_Size_Chart.pdf

So the old roto 3 is now called a roto 4. The Palm roto 4 will fit that boat no doubt. I have an old Blunt (with a longer, keyhole cockpit) and the roto 4 fits on, with quite a bit of effort. Of course there are other deck manufacturers that would have their own sizes.

What it comes down to is basically the circumference of the cockpit. You can measure this with a piece of string. Hope this has helped a little then..

Measure the width of the cockpit (at largest point) and length (same thing) and go to www.electricwater.com.au/ and look at the sizing chart, chances are they already have the kayak listed or u could create your own template or get the closest fit. They ship world wide and make good quality decks, never had a leak or any damage to the kevlar ones.

i found the easiest way was to get a tape measure out & measure the length of the cockpit externally on width & it's length. I then drew a small diagram with the measurements on it & took into the kayak shop. I also took a tape measure with me.

This way you can physically check the size of the spraydeck's that you want & get it right first time without having to go back again. Keydeck, bigdeck, roto 4 & roto 5 are all very well; but you need to know the size. I found that most UK manufacturers ( Playboater in particular ) have ths sizes written on the sales tag, but still take a measure.

You may find that when the deck is new it's a struggle to get it on the cockpit without assistance ( unless you wet it; although the shop might not want it back if you do this ). The easiest way is to put the deck on climb into the boat & then fit it. Although I've no doubt there are some strong people that could fit it on thee own.

Hope you find the right deck,

Pete46:)

Do you already have the Jive or are you just considering it? If you already have it, go to your local paddling shop and look for a sprayskirt that fits well. Since you are a new kayaker, you will probably want to start with a simple shock-cord sprayskirt. Look at the Mountain Surf Basic, Snap Dragon River Trek, Seals Surf, and the Immersion Research Shockwave. Here are the links, respectively:
