Boats Database: Dagger Kingpin 6.2

The competition level freestyle boat for the mid-sized paddler. Team D wondered what would happen if you took a spud boat and made it faster, slicier, and more controllable. To find out, we ran the Kingpin through our R&D wringer more than any boat we’ve ever produced. What you see here is the result. No-compromise performance in, on, or above whatever hole or wave you decide to dominate. With its’ knifey ends, the Kingpin cartwheels and blunts like longer boats, but in places they can’t even fit. Its hull and rocker profile were developed for cutting edge performance so there’s no need to worry about sacrificing looseness or hop, but it’s been tweaked for speed. So instead of just Macho Moving that wave, you can catch it, and then destroy it. But wait, there’s more. With the addition of our AirCore™ hip pads, a Precision adjustable seat, thigh braces and Camlok™ backband, you’ll be more comfortable than you’ve ever been. You’re welcome.

If you're happy, you're successful.

Dagger Kingpin 6.2 16 years 9 months ago #31253

Hi
has anybody who weight arround 65kg experiences if the kingpin 6.2 is the right size to practise cartweehls and perhaps loops on flatwater to be prepared for white water.
(I dont mean an expert who can use a lot of kayaks on flatwater I mean to begin with rodeo basics on flatwater )
It would be great if you could help me
Tobias

well, I way approx 83 kgs.. a little off from 65, but my point is that you will have trouble with this boat unless you start gaining some serious weight.. usually people have a hard time doing cartwheels because of technique, but when you have a boat that has too much volume for your weight, it makes it very very difficult.

but, when I tried the 6.2, it was awesome, initiates super easy, it's really edgy but is easy to control and has great stability and forgiveness when trying to cartwheel.

Overall this boat is perfect for me at 83 kgs... if you weigh 65, your going to need the kingpin 6.1... and the 6.1 would be a great fit for you and to start doing more technical moves in flatwater.

Kingpin 6.1 will be to small
see spec:
w. range 80-140 lbs. / 36.3 kg-63.5 kg
vol. 44 gal / 166 L

Small boats are good only for learning basics like iniatial strokes, stalls etc. Later you can't make more complex moves, because kayak goes deep under water. My friend make great wheels in Kingpin 6.2 but can't throw loops because he is on end of weight range.

Thanks for you beta.
I think I take the kingpin 6.2 so the cartwhel on flatwater migt be more chalenging (which keeps me longer motivated to practis) but there are more possibilitys and savety for white water.
I will see soon how it works.
Thanks say Tobias

I'm 74 kg and Kingpin 6.2 works fine for me in flatwater and whitewater. It is possible to make cartwheels even without paddle in flatwater. I think that Kingpin's seat is too low so foam plate (about 2 cm) on seat will propably help to make cartwheels and stalls.
