Boats Database: Riot Booster 60

Easy to edge, yet stable; easy to carve, yet unbelievably forgiving. Uncanny looseness, which translates into effortless corrections for those just starting out, and the first flat spins for the intrepid. The Booster is a mind-blowing combination. Available in 3 sizes 50,55 and 60 to fit any paddler or paddling style. Playboat or river runner: you decide!

If you're happy, you're successful.

You would probably be better off with the 55 as a better river runner or the 50 as a more playful boat. The Booster 60's bottom weight range is shown as 161 lbs, so you are under the minimum, which will make it harder to throw it around. Also, the 50 is 7' 4", so it will be much more challenging to do some of the more recent rodeo moves, such as loops. You would be better off with a JK Fun for the playboating side or a Dagger RX for a river running playboat, but Dagger/Wavesport plastic is not very good. You might want to look for a boat like a Pyranha Stretch/Sub 7, Necky Mission, or any other 6-7 ft playboat.

P.S. on your last post, you were 5' 6" and 175 lbs, so which numbers are correct?

He is tall and light, so it will be a bit tougher to find a boat with enough leg room to make him comfortable, but still be able to use it as a playboat. The guy I got my Pyranha Sub-7 2-ball was fairly tall, but he took out the bow pillar to fit in it, and that is not a very good idea. If you could get his inseam, it will help, since we don't know if he has long or short legs.

someone that tall would probably not do well in the 55
back when the Boosters came out, I had a few friends who bought the 55 because of the weight range suggestion, but the foot room was no good for them. They went up to the 60 and had enough toom.

The Booster is a great boat (exceptional for it's time), but is not a super cutting edge freestyle boat. It never was. But, many people (including me) loved the boat. It surfs, spins very well, cartwheels, blunts kinda well if you throw correctly.

How much river running stability is important over freestyle ability for your friend?
