Boats Database: Wilderness Systems Ripper

A beach toy with a Rapon pedigree. Slightly rockered hull for surf play; but enough skeg to go straight when you get past the breakers. A great boat to have around the lake, pond, river or beach house. Fits on any car and within any budget.

If you're happy, you're successful.

i'm looking at this boat to throw in/on the highlander and take camping to lakes and easygoing streams. any comments? i'm considering also 9 ft boats--hobie lanai, riot escape, ocean frenzy. i am an experienced inflatable kayak/whitewater boater--just looking for something where i'm not sitting IN the water. should i consider a sit inside as well?

It would probably be fine, but I would look at the Perception Torrent , since it is one of the only whitewater SOT hard shells available (The other is discontinued, probably because both companies are owned by the same parent company, but it is a Dagger Pegasus ). You would be much better off with a sit inside, because there are so many more choices. You could even get an OC-1 if you wanted, but there are many more kayaks available from many different brands, and different designs for nearly every use imaginable. You will probably want to check out the LL Remix XP9 or XP10, and the Pyranha Fusion.

thanks for the fast reply. i may not have been clear...i'm not looking for a whitewater boat...more a flatwater/slow water platform for birdwatching or just hanging out on the water. short (possibly for inside my vehicle) and stable are my two main requirements. i have an ik but it's a self-bailer and in the winter, sitting actually in the water is cold and/or requires more gear than i want to deal with. not to mention inflating/deflating for a short time paddle.

If you get a sit on top, it will be self bailing, which also means that water can come up through the holes in the boat. You may want to look at a rec kayak or a crossover kayak/canoe like this . It's hard to find a non-whitewater kayak that is shorter than 10 feet, but you may want to look at the Dagger Zydeco or the LL Remix XP9, since even though the XP9 is a whitewater hybrid, it should be fine for your purposes. Also, look at the Hobie Kayaks line.

Also, look at the Bic Sports Yakka series. They are folding hardshells, but would probably have better performance than an inflatable. www.bicsportkayaks.com/products/yakka,3,...20-explorer,519.html www.bicsportkayaks.com/products/yakka,3,...akka-80-red,515.html . I would go with the first link (12 ft.) for speed. Check out this video:
