Boats Database: Dagger Mamba 7.5

Pure. Pure is the word that was the inspiration for our new river running series, The Mambas. Pure enjoyment of whitewater kayaking. Pure confidence found in a hull that is easy to roll, performs crisp eddy turns, provides REAL hull speed and has outstanding initial stability. Pure fun in having a kayak design to open the doors for new paddlers. Pure exhilaration for a boat that tackles technical big water. Finally, we deliver a Pure - Simple - and very light outfitting system that allows the Mamba paddler to create a perfect fit that provides consistent performance and control. The word is Pure and the Mamba delivers.

If you're happy, you're successful.

Wondering if this boat is big enough for me. Am 150lbs without paddling gear. Any opinions?

It should be fine, but I got the Fluid Solo over the Mamba Creeker because of the plastic issues associated with Wave Sport, which is owned by the same company that makes Dagger kayaks. The outfitting should be fine, as is the size, but try to find a demo first. Check out the LL Remix 59, since it is made for a similar purpose, but a completely different design (long and thin, like older boats). I would take the Remix if I could, but it is much more expensive than the Solo. Being in Ireland, you may want to check out the Pyranha Burn, but from other users, it seems to have plastic issues as well. The Jackson Hero should also work well.

I wouldn´t worry too much about the plastic. I have had a boat from Dagger and so have many of my friends and none of us has had issues with the plastic.

I tried the 8.5 last summer (I´m about 80 kg + gear) and I just loved it. Super comfortable, easy to roll, catches eddies like a dream, surfs the smallest waves and so on......
I would rather aim for being in the lower end of the weight range - which in this case means going for Mamba 8.0. It ranges from 150-215 lbs (68 - 97,5kg). But that´s just my opinion B) This also depends on what kind of paddling you do.

I'm close to buying this boat but the stated volume is bothering me - 57 gallons. Put one side by side with a Diesel 65 (65 gallons) and you can't see any noticeable difference in volume. Could the specs be wrong?

Just wait for the new Diesels to come out, or the Fluid river runner/creeker. I would personally take the LL Remix over the Diesel or Mamba, because it is really easy to paddle, but I didn't like the low-volume ends. The Pyranha Burn is a great user-friendly boat, and I have not had a chance to paddle the Jackson Hero or the Pyranha Karnali. I would think that the Diesel 70 would be perfect for your size.
