Hey everyone,
My name is Erica and I am in the US for the summer (Im from Ireland).
I decided to put a post up to maybe try and get some help from paddlers over here!
I am mad to get a bit of paddling done on this side of the world. I didn't bring gear with me because I couldnt bring everything with me!

I was just wondering if anyone knows of schools or people that I could maybe get hooked up with? I am willing to travel during time off from work. I am on the East Coast (East Hampton) for the summer but plan on traveling anywhere for some fun paddling!

My biggest obstacle would be of course be gear but I am willing to rent some. That was the plan anyway! So if you know of anything that might suit me post up!
Anything would be a help...Really miss it!

Peace,
Erica.

Hey E,

For a start you may want to take a peak at zoaroutdoor.com it sounds like you were looking for white water stuff...not sure. Its a great shop in the Berkshires of MA. on the Deerfield river dam controlled several sections. from II-!V. Then there is good amount in upstate NY. Keep in mind that u may want to have a beater paddle w/ ya. With an Irish accent u may need it to keep the boys away....lol.

hope that helps....

Cheers Spinn120,
Great to get a bit more info, all the other forums that I have heard of, are still waiting to register me.
About the accent ha!
Thinking about booking a course in Canada at the moment looks awesome!
Oh By the way, Im up for any aspect of kayaking so if people have gear I can borrow and wouldnt mind me tagging along post up! Willing to repay with beer.
Cheers, thanks again!
Erica ;-)

I'm assuming that you have access to a car....

When it rains, as it has been, there are lots of rivers that run within 2 hours of you, throughout Connecticut and the very southern part of New York.

My local river is the Housatonic. Bulls Bridge is epic when it is running high, and a very nice class III when running low. People at Clarke Outdoors have a pretty good idea of what is going on there.

some websites:

There is also great low water park and play in Tarrifville, Connecticut on the Farmington river.

How close are you to the ferry?
Rain brings up a fun class IV creek just north of Bridgeport, Connecticut

We'll look around at teh HACKS club house and see what is available to help kit you out.

How long are you here?
What type of boater are you?
