Riot Disco Good or Bad? 16 years 7 months ago #23075

Im a good surfer and life gaurd thats just got started with river running and have been offered a Disco in good nick. It has a power seat fitted also. Is it worth £200 of my hard earned dosh? I have paddled it and and like it, but dont want to make a mistake on this investment.
I made a mistake when I fifst started surfing in buying a small thruster shortboard, I was talked into it by the shop owner at scarborough. It was a BIG mistake as it took me much longer to learn on, as the board was to small. I wasted a good year on that board. I should have started with a mini mal or longboard.
16 years on I atill wont buy from that surf shop, as I feel he stitched me up.
Any info on the Disco would be v mucho appreciated.

the disco is a very versatile boat and stands the test of time very well. see for instance riot team paddler beat rüttimann, who still paddles the disco as his freestyle boat of choice:

it's also pretty good for medium grade river trips, but you don't want to go creeking in it.

be aware that the power seat will make the learning curve a bit steeper, as your body weight will be higher above the boat, so it will be more tippy. that's a trade-off for having better control over the boat once you get the hang of the power seat.

200 sounds a bit expensive for such an old boat, but they are rare and wanted, so it's probably a realistic price. shouldn't be too difficult to sell it again if you don't like it :)
If you're happy, you're successful.
