Roof rack recommendations 16 years 7 months ago #23119

Any thoughts on the Thule carriers?

Just want a cheap solution for my 1 13-foot s-o-t kayak

Thule is very fine, I use my Thule roofrack for over 10 years now without any problems whatsoever.

I recently got myself a Handirack inflatable roofrack because the Thule does not fit my wife's car (hers is bigger than mine :side: ) and we occasionally use her car to transport boats too. The handirack is very good at that: it's cheap, fits most cars and if you don't use it you can store it in a small bag.

If you don't have to transport your boat very often this may be a very good option too.

I went for one of the Yak racks here www.autoanything.com/roof-racks/20A52095A1.aspx

I was going to go with the Thule set to go but the Land Shark was cheaper. Both Thule and Yakima make great stuff, couldn't be happier.

The cheapest and easyiest way of transporting a 13 sit on top is upside down (seats down) straight on to padded bars. If you need to stick on its side to give you space for other gear then a set of Thule Hull-a-port will cradle a boat of this size well have used one on a Tarpon 130T, if you need to put a few boats on the roof then a set of uprights/ kayak stackers will allow you to carry 2 or more boats easily.

give Swansea Canoes a ring they sell roof racks and carriers for kayaks

A cheaper option than the Thule racks here in the UK are the Halfords own brand racks I have been told they are made by Thule not sure if this is true or not but they are certainly very similar. I have had several on different cars and never had a problem with any of them.
