unlike many, I was an intermediate paddler by the time I got this boat (this was a loong way from my starter boat!). I needed an all-around boat that would be good for rescues/towing/gear retrievals and which fit me well. The Ammo S fit the bill...
Despite having a planning hull, you will never mistake this boat for a playboat (or even river-runner/playboat) - it simply doesn't have that level of performance. And I've spent enough time in various displacement-hull boats to say it won't take the place of a true creeker. But for a general-purpose river-runner (or all-around compromise boat) it does very well (also works well as a lite-creeker). If I had to narrow my quiver of boats down to one, this would be the boat. It's the most versitile boat I've paddled.
This is not a hard boat to roll, but it is a SLOW boat to roll - it simply comes around slowly and can't be rushed (this is actually good, as it gives you lots of time to brace &/or correct edging to prevent a flip)...if you're one of those people (like me) who has a problem slowing down their roll, this boat will either cure that or kill your roll...

About Me
Intermediate paddler? Whatever that really means (lol). Mostly paddle class II/III, do some instruction, run safety for groups...I'm female, 5'4", 48 yrs old
Pros / The Good
Great general all-around river-runner. Forgiving. Gives you time to correct edging "mistakes". Good hull speed for the size.
Cons / The Bad
A compromise boat - performance neither good nor bad. Has a very slow roll.
