Introduction
We stumbled upon the trailer of this DVD on the Ology Productions website and immediately got in touch with Trey 'Ology' Chace who was kind enough to send us a pre-production copy for an independent Playak review. Why was Playak so interested in The White Album? Well, from the trailer it became clear that it was hardcore, it was different and it looked very independent, which always earns some Playak bonus points.
Booooofff..
Paddlers
The paddlers are not necessarily the world's most famous (yet), but they paddle rapids that would make most mortals immediately become aware of their own mortality. They run very rocky and steep stuff, sometimes completely out of control or even upside-down. Their attitude, fun and lack of fear must have helped them survive it all. Unless of course they are so good that they just pretend to be out of control to make the video more exciting, but I doubt that option :-) It's definitely entertaining though. Looks like it all worked out this time, let's just hope these guys will know and stick to their own limits in future adventures as well.
Pretty steep.
Production
The video has a very independent touch. Not like underground, but it combines zero political correctness with well chosen music (there ain't no cure for suicide :-) and a good production. At times, the production is even brilliant and moments of pure beauty and happiness can be felt from the screen.
Stay in.
The non-kayaking takes are a bit more entertaining than in most kayaking movies. The political incorrectness trespasses the borders of good taste though in a scene where a small innocent mexican child is made repeat 'I'm a sexy bitch'. Tasteless and redundant imho. Then again, Playak received a pre-production copy of the DVD so some details may still change.
Pretty narrow.
Conclusion
All in all, the movie is refreshing and thrilling. You'll definitely impress your friends with this one, who will of course ask: do you run that sort of stuff as well? To which you'll probably reply: Well, then I wouldn't be sitting here.
Could someone turn on the whitewater please?
