Do any of youngins have trouble getting ou on the water? The only way i weem to be able to paddle is through camps or clubs, and that really isnt enough for me. i know people i could go with but my parents don't know a lot about my skill and feel uncomfortable when i paddle without adult supervision, even on the easiest rivers. i see there concerns i spose but it means i can only get on the water like once a month. Does any else have this problem or solutions to it?

The easiest thing and best thing I did was go to Yahoo groups and searched for kayakers near cincinnati and found a group called CincyPaddlers. They always has trips posted, and there usally someone looking for a driving conpaion who would love to split gas money.

Start your own club.
Get support from your other paddling friends and bring the idea to your school.
If they are interested work it out and present it to you parents.
Make sure the club includes a certified instructor and hey even better get certified and show them what you can do.

done that but it only has five people, al below my skill level. hopefully it will grow with time. The instructor gu is great but he works for a camp so he isnt alowed to take me out on the river unless its a certified club run.

i don't really have to many problems getting on the water and I am not really concerned about my skill level it is just that there is not much whitewater down here in texas and my parents won't let me go on paddling trips with the other paddlers and man that sucks.

where are you in Texas?
We get down to Grapevine, near dalas once a year. There are some small spots to play that I don't think people usee around there. If they are close to your place you can probably convince your folks to get out and suppervise you and your friends.... If they paddle they might even enjoy them....

truely not really my parents sorta want me to go out and make my mistakes. you know the kind of parents that would let you poke your finger in the light socket just so you will never do it and never be tempted again. I alwaysed love learing the hard way, I think you learn it better that way to. and the socket didnt hurt that much! :liar: :liar:

Uhhhh, speking for the parents of the paddlingworld.....
I encurage my son Zach to go for it. How hard he wants to go is up to him.
That being said I really rather be there or have his mom there. His mom is learning to paddle too but is really good with a throw rope and rescues fromshore. We pick our spots.
If your folks want you to be safe and in one piece you really can't blame them.
My mom freaked years ago when I started paddling (with the dinosaurs in 1982). They were not happy and I did not get to get out as much asI wanted. But if your dad is into it you really need to show him your skills and get some you and him time on he water alone.
If he does not paddle then get in the time that you can. If you finda descent play spot (even a slow class 2) you might get some time with him and build his confidence in you.
I know I would really hate myself if Zach got hurt and I could have prevented it.
The more you work on his confidnece in you and give him reasons to feel good about your abilities and those of the people you paddle with the better your chances.
Good luck.

Sorry to be a long winded old guy....

Having the dad that paddles is already a good start.
Is there a paddle spot nearby?
