Demo, demo, demo, and then demo some more. Beg borrow and steal boats from friends, random people you meet on the river. Even head down to your local playspot and see can you hop into one or two boats there. Most paddlers will be obliging enough and only too happy to help. The point is get yourself into as many boats as possible, find out what you like and then make your decision from that. What your looking for is a river running playboat, check in the kayak database on this site, should give you an idea of the boats you are looking at. Also if your looking to buy in the second hand market then you could also look at some of the older slicer playboats - you might find them a little trippier than a true river runner but they will also do the job. Depending on your size/weight, some of the boats you could look at are: Pyrhana Inazone - plenty of these around second hand and even though they have been around for a long long time they do make for a great river running boat with the added play potential. Nice and cheap too. Also you could look at Dagger: Juice, Wavesport: Ace/Siren, EZ, EZG, Pyrhana I:3, I:4 etc

Yes turbo is a nice boat - you could try the Riot booster - basically the older model turbo - there are a few floating around cheap enough theses days.

Dagger Kingpin is my favorite (Inazone is fine for creeking, not for playing)

Once again I reccomend trying Demos. Look on auction sites, check out second hand boats in shops. You have nothing to lose by asking to try a boat.

Quick tip, if your intending to do this, you may need to pack yourself an extra spraydeck as yours wont fit all models.

Otherwise, Wavesport are good for the type of boat you describe. Try the XXX, or forplay. someolderboats if your looking for second hand.

Hope this was of help in any way.

cheers 4 all ur help!!
I dont think there is anywhere local that i can demo boats plus the price range im looking at will mean a boat quite old.. I bought my first boat without demoing it and it was fine... maybe it was just luck..
