Sub7: The Lowdown from Pyranha

Why and how was the Sub 7 designed?

Bob Campbell: The Sub 7 was in development quietly from the days of one of the first real short "fun" boats around, the "Attak" (Which was followed by the Disco etc...)

Over the last couple of years we had lots of requests from importers, dealers and paddlers to bring out a boat based around the same principles as the Attak (which they all loved) i.e. short, fun and really user friendly! But people wanted the addition of some modern higher performance features that we have been using in the InaZones and ProZone series of boats.

We started to look at a boat that would fit this profile mid last year, but with the ProZones introduction and moving factory we just never found the time to get the thing off the ground. We finally got to get it in the water however late 2000 and early 2001 and the Sub 7 was born!

When will the bigger boat come out?

It looks like with all the other projects that we have on the go at the moment we are going to have to hang on until the autumn for the bigger of the boats (Sub 7/3) to hit production. We are finding that there is so much room in the mid sized boat, so a lot more people will be able to fit into this version of the Sub 7 that its sister boat the ProZone 230.

Does this mean that the Sub 7 is replacing the ProZone?

Most definitely not, the ProZones have just had an upgrade with the new Super XR ratchet backrest system and this brings them fully into line with our current whitewater range. There are definitely sites and rivers where the ProZone will still outperform the Sub 7 and many other newer boats on the market so the Sub 7 really just adds another choice into our "Park and Play" range.
